Safe, Active, Fun, Enrichment – SAFE
The SAFE. Before and After School Program for students in Newark, Plano, Sandwich, Somonauk and Yorkville school districts provides an inclusive atmosphere where children are nurtured and encouraged to have fun and cultivate friendships. In the S.A.F.E. program, we honor families by allocating time for students to complete homework. We offer assistance with homework when needed. Students may spend homework time reading or being read to. The kids in the SAFE program will have the choice to do arts and crafts, play large group games, have dance parties, play board games and much more to suit all kid’s interests. We offer a light breakfast in the morning and a snack in the afternoon. We are a nut-free program.
Hours of Operation *subject to change
- Monday through Friday on all school attendance days
- Mornings begin at 6:30 am until the school bell
- Afternoons begins from school bell to 6:00 pm

Our staff is energetic and well trained with a “kid first” attitude. S.A.F.E. employees complete more than 18 hours of training including DCFS Mandated Reporter, Gateways Child Development, Health, and Safety Basics, CPR certification, First Aid certification and an extensive background check. The S.A.F.E. staff exemplifies Y core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty in their work with your children.
SAFE is a program that begins on the first day of school and ends on the last day of school.
The Fox Valley Family YMCA accepts DHS payments. Additionally, through our generous donors, the YMCA offers financial assistance for those who qualify. Please see the front desk for details.
Special Needs Campers
The Fox Valley Family YMCA will make every reasonable effort to accommodate children with special needs. However, our Summer Day Camp Program is not equipped to handle children that require 1:1 attention on a regular basis. Please contact the Director of the School Age Program with any questions or concerns.
**The Y continues to follow all CDC and DCFS guidelines regarding COVID-19 precautions. Members, staff and program participants are expected to do so, as well.
