The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they will carry with them throughout their lives. The benefits are far greater than just physical health. Along with improving health, whenever teamwork is involved, there's the added benefit of being connected to others. That's why you'll find a range of recreational activities at the Y. With something to offer everyone, there's no such thing as being too old to get in the game.

NEW! We've opened up the gym early for Open Basketball, Friday mornings from 5:15-6:15am at our Central Branch! Free for members and $10 for non-members.

Tuesdays | January 9 - March 12 | Central

This league offers a 10 game regular season schedule along with a playoff for those looking to test their team’s skill against the area competition. Weekly standings will be kept, IHSA officials will officiate games and all basketball rules/regulations will be enforced. Good sportsmanship is the responsibility of every captain, player, and spectator. All fees must be paid prior to the first game. To register an entire team, contact the Central Branch. If you are an individual and would like to play on a team, you can be placed on our Free Agent List. This list doesn’t guarantee that you will be placed on a team, but if 10 individuals are on the Free Agent List, a team can be formed from the list.

Men's Noon Basketball (ages 18+)  |  central

The gym has been reserved for full court, pick-up games. We welcome all to come and participate in our open gym time but from 1-2 YMCA Members only. This allows guests use of the basketball courts only, no weight room usage allowed. YMCA Staff has the right to ask anyone to leave for any violations of the code of conduct. 

Preschool Sports
Ages 3-5  |  Jan 8 - Feb 26 & March 5 - April 23  |  $35M/$45NM

This program allows parent and child some quality sports time. Help them learn the basics of multiple sports. Parents participate with your child to encourage and guide them through soccer, t-ball, basketball, floor hockey, and football. This class runs Monday from 11:30-12 or Thursday from 11:30-12pm.

YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE

Did you know? In December 1891, at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, the school’s director gave physical education teacher James Naismith two weeks to come up with an indoor winter game to challenge a class of future Y directors. Naismith hung peach baskets to the bottom of a second-level running track and taught the men his new game: basketball. Today, basketball is second only to soccer as the most popular sport in the world.

This league will focus on basic fundamentals, as well as offensive and defensive strategies. IHSA Basketball rules will be progressively enforced at each age level. Practice will be held Monday or Wednesday at 5pm or 6pm. Games will be held on Saturday. This session features a competitive division for advanced skill levels.

In this modern, Japanese martial art, the student will learn to use his/her opponent’s energy against them rather than using force against force. Safety is stressed and students will be taught to fall safely and to work in a cooperative manner with their training partners. Register online or with our front desk at 630-552-4100.

Building on what you learned in practice and taking it to the next level. Soccer time slot: running, ball handling, specialized skills for positions Flag Football: hand-offs, learning positions, ball-handling, and conditioning.

3rd-4th grade  |  5th-6th grade  |  7th-8th grade
Test your throwing and dodging skills on the court in a fun and safe environment. Teams will have a max of nine players and will play up to seven games, tournament style, in 60 minutes. Each team will have its own coach/sponsor to make sure safe play is practiced. All skill levels are welcome. Register online or at our front desk.

INDOOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
Ages 4-12  |  January 9 - February 27  |  $60M/$85NM  |  Central
Learn to play one of the fastest games in the world! This action-packed class will emphasize the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship while teaching the basic skills of passing, shooting, stick handling, and much more! In addition to the physical gains associated with hockey, there is also something to be said for the mental health benefits that come with playing the game. Exercise itself can improve your mood because of the endorphins that are released. As a form of exercise, floor hockey provides this benefit, but there’s an added brain boost that comes with the sport as well. Floor Hockey demands good decision-making, and honing these skills can also be transferred to everyday life.
