In addition to our fitness classes and fitness facilities, we offer a variety of fitness programs that support physical, intellectual and spiritual strength. Plus, we offer an extensive catalog of Youth Fitness classes. Our Fitness Center offers state of the art cardiovascular fitness equipment and tons of free weights and circuit machines. Working out can be tough, but our group exercise classes are a great way to start right now! Have fun and stay motivated with us, all while making new friends to encourage you along the way. We have something for everyone and every skill level. We offer Les Mills classes, Yoga, Zumba, PiYo, and more! The best part, group exercise classes are free with your membership! ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS
The Y offers fitness programs for older adults like water exercise, yoga and stretching classes. But, we know that older adults are seeking more than physical benefits when they exercise. They also want a sense of community and to strengthen social ties. The Y has several activities to encourage older adults to take action and get involved. Socializing and volunteering have positive effects on the health of older adults, and exercise has proven to promote mental agility in addition to longevity and good health.

The Y offers many group fitness classes each week. Classes range from Les Mills BodyPump®to Yoga, and our schedule was designed with a variety of fitness enthusiasts in mind. Group exercise classes are included with your Y membership. Classes are subject to change, based on class size and seasonal fluctuations. The Group-Ex fitness pass gives non-members access to both land and aqua group fitness classes –– $50 for a 10 punch pass.

AQUA FITNESS
Aquatic fitness classes are included with your Y membership and are a fun, lower-impact way to get your body moving, improve strength and flexibility, and develop all-around fitness. Classes are offered throughout the week at 9:00 am and 7:30 pm. Monthly group fitness pass gives non-members access to both land and aqua group fitness classes.

ENHANCE® FITNESS
Enhance® Fitness is a proven, community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized, and empowered for independent living. Each class will be led by a certified instructor and exercises will focus on cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance to help reduce the severity of arthritis symptoms. Older adults at all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. The program is especially beneficial for older adults living with arthritis. YMCA BOOT CAMP
FREE to Members/$100NM  |  Boot Camp is for individuals looking to be pushed to the next level. The class meets Monday through Friday from 5-6am and includes a mix of cardio and strength training utilizing body weight exercises, weight training, and Tabata methods. Instructors will work with all fitness levels. Must be at least 18 years of age to register. Pre-registration is required. You can pay monthly or sign up for bank draft and receive a $10 discount on your fee. Register Online!

EQUIP: STRENGTH & SCULPT
This is a 45 minute, small group training class that includes high-intensity cardio bursts, resistance training and focuses on strength and agility exercises using TRX Suspension System, Bosus, sliders, bikes and stability balls. Class is limited to eight participants, so don't miss out!

F.I.T. (WEST)
Functional Interval Training that uses boot camp, HIIT intervals, cardio and strength training to give you a great workout! No two classes are ever the same. All fitness levels welcome.

TRX
This 45 minute, small group training class includes body weight resistance training, core strengthening, and cardio bursts. The TRX Suspension System, Bosu Balls, and Stability Balls will be used. Class is limited to eight participants, so don't miss out!

W.O.W. (WOMEN ON WEIGHTS)
Looking to make strides and gains in the weight room, but not sure where to start? This small group setting is just for you! Let us help you feel comfortable and confident to train in our wellness room with proper technique!

INTRO TO LIFTING
This class will focus on resistance & weight training to help you achieve your fitness goals. If you are looking for guidance on proper form or how to execute a certain move, this class is for you. We will cover form, styles, and types of lifts to incorporate into your fitness routine.

YOGA FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
Bone is a remarkable tissue with a functional structure (the skeleton). It is strong enough to withstand intense physical activity, adaptive enough to respond to changes in activity and lightweight enough to allow efficient movement. But when things go wrong, the result is FRACTURE. Osteoporosis is the condition associated with fractures. In the US alone, there is an estimated 2 million fractures from Osteoporosis, a number that continues to rise as our population ages. Yoga has been proven to prevent and reverse osteoporotic bone loss safely. Join us and build back confidence, balance, and bone to prevent a fracture.

Children under the age of 11 are not permitted in the Fitness Center/Group Exercise class unless participating in a kids fitness program authorized by the Y. Members and guests 11-13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the fitness center/group exercise classes. Children under age 11 can attend Kids Zone (free with a Family Membership) while their parent or guardian attends a Group Exercise class. Children ages 11 -14 must complete an orientation prior to using the fitness center. Please make an appointment for the orientation at the Front Desk.

PERSONAL NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING
Registered Dietitian, Michelle LeMaistre, will work with you to develop an appropriate, nutrition-based lifestyle change to meet your personal needs. She will consider any dietary restrictions you have, discuss obstacles, and help you get on the right path to living a healthy lifestyle! You will have an initial consultation and follow up appointments per package. This is a great addition to your personal training package!

FITNESS ASSESSMENT
A great way to evaluate your current fitness level.  It includes a series of measurements to help determine your physical fitness including height, weight, body composition, blood pressure, muscular and cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.

WELLNESS ROOM ORIENTATION
If you are new to the Y, or are unsure how to use some of the equipment in the fitness center, sign up for a FREE fitness orientation. Y Fitness Staff will help you become comfortable and familiar with our strength and cardio equipment. Please make an appointment at the Membership Desk.

SMALL GROUP TRAINING
Small group training is an affordable way to take advantage of a trainer’s expertise, creativity and motivation at a lower cost. Draw from the energy of your group as you push yourself for real results. Training sessions are for 4-8 participants creating smaller, intimate classes with more individualized attention.

Instructors will be conducting fitness checks at the 1st and last week of class for all participants.

What is a fitness check? A 3 step assessment consisting of a sit-and-stand, bicep curl and timed up-and-go test.

*Non-member membership includes 16-week adult membership with full-access to Central & West branch. Take advantage of the Y's full group-ex schedule, both wellness rooms and the pool including our free aqua fitness schedule!

Michelle LeMaistre

Michelle has been an instructor for the Y since 2013 specializing in Les Mills classes and group cycling. As the Healthy Living Director, Michelle oversees our chronic disease programs and is passionate about health, wellness and weight management. In addition, Michelle is also a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with experience in both clinical and community environments. Michelle enjoys working with all clients from children to seniors. She has been involved in the healthcare industry since 2005 and brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for personal training.

Jackie's love of fitness began 3 years ago when she successfully lost over 100 pounds herself and maintained that weight loss through diet and exercise.  Motivating and helping others achieve their goals is her #1 priority when working with clients.  She also believes that a good workout is a fun one, and strives to maintain that attitude throughout all her classes and work with clients.  In her free time, Jackie enjoys traveling with her husband and 3 children.

While working for the Y as our Speed & Agility Instructor, Nevin is pursuing a Nursing degree at Aurora University. “
My passion for nursing is deeply rooted in my interest in health and fitness.” As an experienced strength and conditioning instructor, Nevin plans weekly exercises + drills keeping every workout fresh and each participant engaged. Nevin’s class focuses on form, technique, and muscle memory drills to ensure the development of good habits for all athletes.

hearts01 red2webThe Fox Valley Family YMCA is proud to offer our first Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program. This health initiative is designed to help participants with hypertension lower their blood pressure by following an evidence-based program that combines blood pressure self-monitoring, nutrition education, and personalized support.

The Y developed this program to help individuals better manage hypertension, and improve their overall health. According to the American Heart Association, more than 80 million Americans have high blood pressure, but less than half have it under control. Research shows that the simple process of checking and recording blood pressure at least twice a month over four months may lower blood pressure in some people with hypertension. In addition, evidence shows that proper nutrition, particularly with a reduction in sodium intake, may help reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

“The Fox Valley Family YMCA is proud to launch the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program,” said April Hix, Fox Valley Family YMCA Fitness Director. “The Y is committed to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities by delivering new programs and initiatives.”
 
As part of the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program, participants will measure their blood pressure at least two times a month for four consecutive months—a minimum of eight times, and record their blood pressure readings in a self-selected tracking tool. A nutrition education component will encourage the participants to practice healthier eating habits, including reducing sodium in their diet.

The program is facilitated by Healthy Heart Ambassadors, appointed and trained by the Y, who will show participants how to use a blood pressure cuff, encourage self-monitoring and facilitate monthly nutrition education seminars.

The Fox Valley Family YMCA is looking for adults with high blood pressure to take part in this program. For a small investment of time, participants receive:
•    A simple, evidence-based program that may lower blood pressure
•    Personalized support from a Y Healthy Heart Ambassador
•    Tips for maintaining cardiovascular health
•    Easy-to-use, portable self-tracking tool
•    Heart healthy nutrition education seminars

Participants must meet the following criteria to participate in the program:  
•    Must be at least 18 years old
•    Must be diagnosed with high blood pressure
•    Must not have experienced a recent cardiac event
•    Must not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias
•    Must not be at risk for lymphedema

JOIN THE Y'S FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM!
Our Healthy Heart Ambassadors will be available for screenings at our Plano Branch (3875 Eldamain Rd.) on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, Wednesdays from 12pm to 1pm and Fridays from 10:30am to 11:30am.
