At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for everyone. In swim lessons, we use methods to help overcome fears about swimming, build confidence, and develop swimming skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet kids at their own swimming level, help families set achievable goals and celebrate all successes in our swim lessons. By educating and partnering with parents in our swim lessons, we're determined to prevent drowning in our community. Our swim lessons are Kendall County’s best way for your child to learn to swim safely! Learning to swim is the most important thing your child can do when it comes to reducing the risk of drowning. The Fox Valley Family YMCA is proud to offer swim lessons following the newest Y USA curriculum. The Y USA Swim Lesson Program helps adults, children and families learn an important life skill and supports them in gaining the knowledge, ability, and stamina to become strong and confident swimmers.

Swim STARTERS (Parent & Child)

Level A & B  |  Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.



Swim Level C  |  NEW! Tadpole swim lessons will help your child transition from parent-child classes to preschool basics classes. This class is great for first time swim students ages 2-1/2-4.


Swim Basics

Level 1-3  |  Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: Swim, float, swim, jump, push, turn, grab. These skills will make your child safe to swim short distances and climb out of the water.


Swim Strokes

Level 4-6  |  Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that improve health and well-being and prepare them for a lifetime of physical fitness and swim team.




*Levels 3-6 require evaluation with a passing certificate to register at the front desk.

*PC-B & PC-C progress to preschool classes with instructor approval.





A competitive Youth Swim program for Y members ages 5-21 building strength and endurance while refining technique. Swimmers are grouped according to ability and age from beginner to advanced. The team competes against other area Y’s as well as in District/State meets. Children are empowered by the confidence they develop as they work to swim a mile and beyond while enjoying the water environment so many seem born for.

Aqua Force will offer different competitive swim clinics based on the ability of the swimmer. All are designed to improve stroke technique and increase endurance. These clinics will assist in the development of your technique and endurance. They are also a great way for new and returning swimmers to preview our summer and fall swim team practices.

Registration begins August 15. All returning families are required to attend one of the orientation meetings 6-6:30pm.


If swim team is too long of a commitment, we offer NEW session options for Silver and Pre Senior that are great for learning the same skills as swim team or for summer swim team kids to continue improving technique to become better prepared for next summer.

Masters Swimming is our swim group for people who are 18 and older. You will receive coached swimming workouts that help improve your swimming technique and fitness level. This group welcomes adult swimmers from lap swimmers, to adults interested in competitive swimming, as well as triathletes.

Aquatic fitness classes are included with your Y membership and are a fun, lower-impact way to get your body moving, improve strength and flexibility, and develop all-around fitness. Classes are offered throughout the week at 9:00am and 7:30pm.

An aqua fitness class is a great way to add something new to your routine and is a great workout for all ages! Aqua fitness can be tailored to challenge everyone from a twenty-something swimmer to an active senior. Do you sometimes feel exposed in a traditional group exercise class? Don’t think you can follow along to a routine? Never fear...the water hides all, leaving you to be more focused on your movements rather than worrying about keeping up with everyone else. Aqua fitness classes are also a great cross-training workout that will improve your performance in other high-impact activities like running, dance or team sports.

Your body will thank you for it! Water’s buoyancy will help avoid the wear and tear on your body that often comes along with working out. Aqua fitness strengthens muscles without stressing vulnerable joints, which makes it great for recovering from sports injuries and water provides equal resistance through your full range of motion, which results in balanced muscle action for your joints. Working out in water is a true full-body workout. Your heart, muscles, and internal organs all benefit.
