The YMCA's health, fitness and sports programs are developmentally appropriate and help people at any stage of life build positive health habits. Participation in YMCA programs offers youth and adults opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, increased self-confidence and improved mental abilities.

Infants01Our Early Learning Academy has 2 locations at both Central Branch in Plano, IL and West Branch in Sandwich, IL.

We offer a full day / full year ages 0-3 years licensed program for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos where our highly trained and qualified teachers provide individualized care, create environments that support and encourage exploration, ensure children's health and safety and develop partnerships with families.

INFANTS (6 weeks - 15 months; 1:4 Ratio)
In the infant classroom, our primary emphasis is meeting the infant’s daily needs and providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. Children are provided with experiences that foster and develop their cognitive, social/emotional, and motor skills while encouraging their independence. Infants are engaged in developmentally appropriate toys, books, stories, and fingerplays throughout the day. They are learning through routines and attachments to their caregivers. Infant daily nap and meal schedule are based on the infant’s individual needs.

TODDLERS (16-24 months; 1:5 Ratio)
In the toddler classroom, children are introduced to a more structured and regular routine. Children are provided an environment that encourages exploration and curiosity through child-initiated and teacher-guided activities. Toddlers have opportunities to make choices in art, sensory, exploration, problem-solving, music, books, self-help skills, and interactive play. The toddler classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.

TWOS (1:8 Ratio)
In the two’s classroom, the children discover a stimulating environment arranged into various interest and learning centers. Our goal for our two-year-olds includes developing valuable self-help skills such as potty training, personal hygiene, dressing self and putting toys away. We also focus on building cognitive skills, such as counting, sorting, recognizing letters, colors, and shapes. Another important skill we work on is interacting with others. We have many opportunities for sharing, listening and taking turns. The two’s classroom provides a rest time as part of the daily schedule.

Kids enrolled in summer day camp at the Fox Valley Family YMCA have the best that summer has to offer right at their fingertips. With daily dips in our pool and use of our Aqua Track obstacle course, gymnasium, outdoor pavilion, and 17 acres of outdoor space to make the most of...whether that means practicing a talent show act with friends or grilling burgers for our Camp Cook-Outs.

Our summer day camp also offers enrichment programs in gymnastics, dance, music, and sports that will further enhance your child’s summer. New this summer!

  • Announcing a 2nd Location in Sandwich at our new School Aged Child Care West facility (628 S. Main St., Sandwich, IL). Children will experience the same once-a-week field trip opportunities AND swim twice-a-week at Central Branch. Rates, camp info and schedules will be the same as Central Branch.
  • Express pickup through text message! It’s simple, with 10 minutes notice via text, your child will be waiting for you at sign out. Express pickup phone number will be provided upon registration.
  • New Field Trips including Sky High, All Seasons Ice Rink, Philips Park and more!
  • Word of the Day & Team Building Tournaments implemented at lunchtime and playtime to promote camp conversation and togetherness amongst campers, counselors and directors.

Camper/Parent Orientation

Central Branch  |  Monday, May 21  |  6:30-7:30pm
West Branch  |  Tuesday, May 22  |  6:30-7:30pm
Campers and their parents will meet camp counselors and get the 411 on what to expect at camp. Field trips and weekly schedule information will be provided. Campers will also receive their Summer Camp t-shirt and backpack. Registration will be available before and after orientation. 


AGE GROUPS 

K-1: Children entering Kindergarten or 1st grade

2-3: Children entering 2nd or 3rd grade

4-6: Children entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade

CIT (Counselors In Training): Children entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grades


DAY CAMP RATES

There is a one-time $35 registration fee for all participants. Free Youth Membership is included in our 3-Day and Weekly rates, as well as a free camp t-shirt, backpack, water bottle and weekly field trip costs.

  • 3-Day: $110 YMCA Members / $90 CIT (includes Youth Membership)
  • Weekly: $140 YMCA Members / $110 CIT (includes Youth Membership)

Payments can be made in person at our Central or West Branch or online. Financial assistance is available and DHS subsidy is accepted.

You can depend on the Y to make sure that all camp activity areas are well supervised. As role models, camp counselors are selected for sound judgment, maturity, experience, enthusiasm and creativity. All employees are interviewed and go through a complete background check prior to being hired and are trained in CPR, first aid, and child abuse prevention.

The Y and our camp counselors are here to help kids flourish socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Rooted in caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, our holistic approach works wonders, preparing kids for life, one fantastic summer at a time.


Y Camp Readers

Back again this summer, the Y is participating in an exciting new program called Camp Readers. Campers will explore reading through a variety of ways including independent reading, partner reading, staff read-aloud, thematic reading and much more. Let's bridge the reading gap together and make summer reading fun and engaging!

The Y offers many group fitness classes each week. Classes range from Les Mills BodyPump®to Yoga, and our schedule was designed with a variety of fitness enthusiasts in mind. Group exercise classes are included with your Y membership. Classes are subject to change, based on class size and seasonal fluctuations. The Group-Ex fitness pass gives non-members access to both land and aqua group fitness classes –– $50 for a 10 punch pass.

AQUA FITNESS
Aquatic fitness classes are included with your Y membership and are a fun, lower-impact way to get your body moving, improve strength and flexibility, and develop all-around fitness. Classes are offered throughout the week at 9:00 am and 7:30 pm. Monthly group fitness pass gives non-members access to both land and aqua group fitness classes.

ENHANCE® FITNESS
Enhance® Fitness is a proven, community-based senior fitness and arthritis management program. It helps older adults become more active, energized, and empowered for independent living. Each class will be led by a certified instructor and exercises will focus on cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance to help reduce the severity of arthritis symptoms. Older adults at all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. The program is especially beneficial for older adults living with arthritis. YMCA BOOT CAMP
FREE to Members/$100NM  |  Boot Camp is for individuals looking to be pushed to the next level. The class meets Monday through Friday from 5-6am and includes a mix of cardio and strength training utilizing body weight exercises, weight training, and Tabata methods. Instructors will work with all fitness levels. Must be at least 18 years of age to register. Pre-registration is required. You can pay monthly or sign up for bank draft and receive a $10 discount on your fee. Register Online!

EQUIP: STRENGTH & SCULPT
This is a 45 minute, small group training class that includes high-intensity cardio bursts, resistance training and focuses on strength and agility exercises using TRX Suspension System, Bosus, sliders, bikes and stability balls. Class is limited to eight participants, so don't miss out!

F.I.T. (WEST)
Functional Interval Training that uses boot camp, HIIT intervals, cardio and strength training to give you a great workout! No two classes are ever the same. All fitness levels welcome.

TRX
This 45 minute, small group training class includes body weight resistance training, core strengthening, and cardio bursts. The TRX Suspension System, Bosu Balls, and Stability Balls will be used. Class is limited to eight participants, so don't miss out!

W.O.W. (WOMEN ON WEIGHTS)
Looking to make strides and gains in the weight room, but not sure where to start? This small group setting is just for you! Let us help you feel comfortable and confident to train in our wellness room with proper technique!

INTRO TO LIFTING
This class will focus on resistance & weight training to help you achieve your fitness goals. If you are looking for guidance on proper form or how to execute a certain move, this class is for you. We will cover form, styles, and types of lifts to incorporate into your fitness routine.

YOGA FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
Bone is a remarkable tissue with a functional structure (the skeleton). It is strong enough to withstand intense physical activity, adaptive enough to respond to changes in activity and lightweight enough to allow efficient movement. But when things go wrong, the result is FRACTURE. Osteoporosis is the condition associated with fractures. In the US alone, there is an estimated 2 million fractures from Osteoporosis, a number that continues to rise as our population ages. Yoga has been proven to prevent and reverse osteoporotic bone loss safely. Join us and build back confidence, balance, and bone to prevent a fracture.

Children under the age of 11 are not permitted in the Fitness Center/Group Exercise class unless participating in a kids fitness program authorized by the Y. Members and guests 11-13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the fitness center/group exercise classes. Children under age 11 can attend Kids Zone (free with a Family Membership) while their parent or guardian attends a Group Exercise class. Children ages 11 -14 must complete an orientation prior to using the fitness center. Please make an appointment for the orientation at the Front Desk.


ORIENTATIONS, NUTRITION COUNSELING, FITNESS ASSESSMENT 

PERSONAL NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING
Registered Dietitian, Michelle LeMaistre, will work with you to develop an appropriate, nutrition-based lifestyle change to meet your personal needs. She will consider any dietary restrictions you have, discuss obstacles, and help you get on the right path to living a healthy lifestyle! You will have an initial consultation and follow up appointments per package. This is a great addition to your personal training package!

FITNESS ASSESSMENT
A great way to evaluate your current fitness level.  It includes a series of measurements to help determine your physical fitness including height, weight, body composition, blood pressure, muscular and cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.

WELLNESS ROOM ORIENTATION
If you are new to the Y, or are unsure how to use some of the equipment in the fitness center, sign up for a FREE fitness orientation. Y Fitness Staff will help you become comfortable and familiar with our strength and cardio equipment. Please make an appointment at the Membership Desk.

SMALL GROUP TRAINING
Small group training is an affordable way to take advantage of a trainer’s expertise, creativity and motivation at a lower cost. Draw from the energy of your group as you push yourself for real results. Training sessions are for 4-8 participants creating smaller, intimate classes with more individualized attention.

Men's Noon Basketball (ages 18+)  |  central

The gym has been reserved for full court, pick-up games. We welcome all to come and participate in our open gym time but from 1-2 YMCA Members only. This allows guests use of the basketball courts only, no weight room usage allowed. YMCA Staff has the right to ask anyone to leave for any violations of the code of conduct. 

La Premiere Dance Company provides students the opportunity to develop technique and skill at a higher level of professionalism. This competitive and performance dance company for kids ages 5-18 gives dancers the chance to perform and compete at several venues throughout the year (including parades, competitions, special holiday events, and conventions). All companies will compete at a local, national competition.

We provide a fun and affordable dance company so all children have an opportunity to dance. As part of our dance company, your children will grow into talented dancers and learn valuable lifelong lessons.

Art01Our YMCA arts programs promote confidence and creativity through dance, drawing, drama, painting, music and more.

While the YMCA is traditionally known as a place to learn how to swim or practice your favorite sport, YMCAs are quickly becoming the place where kids and adults learn to paint, write, sing or act. The Fox Valley Family YMCA offers a variety of art and theater classes for children to experience a variety of art mediums such as theater, painting, drawing, sculpting and more.

According to a recent article, Dr. Kerry Freedman, Head of Art and Design Education at Northern Illinois University says, “Parents need to be aware that children learn a lot more from graphic sources now than in the past. Children need to know more about the world than just what they can learn through text and numbers. Art education teaches students how to interpret, criticize, and use visual information, and how to make choices based on it.”

Swim STARTERS
(Parent & Child)

Level A & B  |  Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.  

 


Swim Basics

Level 1-3  |  Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills:

Swim, float, swim, jump, push, turn, grab

These skills will make your child safe to swim short distances and climb out of the water.


Swim Strokes

Level 4-6  |  Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that improve health and well-being and prepare them for a lifetime of physical fitness and swim team.

*Levels 3-6 require evaluation with a passing certificate to register at the front desk.
